FAQ
What can I expect during my initial integrative medicine consultation?
- Before the visit, Dr. Daoud carefully reviews the detailed questionnaire completed by the patient to begin understanding their history and concerns. During the consultation, she explores the patient’s health timeline in depth, clarifying key events, symptom patterns, and relevant history. With a focus on uncovering the root causes of health challenges, she considers the biological, psychological, social, and lifestyle factors that may be contributing. This comprehensive, patient-centered approach allows her to develop a personalized and holistic treatment plan. Recommendations may include dietary and lifestyle modifications, nutritional supplements, or further testing to guide the next steps in your care.
What is an integrative wellness consultation?
- An integrative wellness consultation is a genomics-informed service designed for individuals without a significant health concern who are looking to optimize overall well-being, enhance longevity, and reduce the risk of future illness. Many seek this type of consultation due to a strong family history of conditions such as dementia, cancer, or autoimmune diseases. The consultations includes a focused health history, nutrition, environmental exposures, and personal wellness goals. While genomics provide valuable insights into potential risk patterns, it is not used to diagnose any condition, and the presence of a specific genetic variant (SNP) does not necessarily mean a disease will develop. Instead, these insights guide evidence-based strategies, such as personalized nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and supplementation, to support healthy gene expression and long-term wellness. Do you offer telehealth or virtual appointments?
- Yes, all appointments are currently conducted via virtual consultations. If you feel an in-person visit is necessary, please contact the clinic for more information. These may be available on a limited basis, if Dr. Daoud determines they would provide significant added benefit. Dr. Daoud primary care practice is located in Oakville, Ontario.
Are integrative and functional medicine consultations covered by OHIP or other insurance plans? Do I need a referral?
- Unfortunately, integrative and functional medicine services are not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or other provincial healthcare plans, as these services fall outside the scope of traditional medical care. However, if you have private insurance, we recommend checking with your provider to confirm any available coverage. A referral from a primary care provider is not required. You can conveniently schedule an appointment directly through our booking portal.
What is your fee structure?
- Initial autism consultations range from $275 to $300, depending on the length of the visit, which ranges from 60 to 75 minutes. For more complex cases, up to 75-minute may be scheduled to support a more extensive evaluation if needed. For all other pediatric and adult patients, the initial consultation is $300 and includes a comprehensive 60-minute assessment. Follow-up visits are billed at $75 per 15 minutes (e.g., $150 for 30 minutes). For complex cases, such as second opinions or patients with prior functional medicine tests, the initial visit may require up to 90 minutes to allow sufficient time for review and will be billed accordingly.
What are the costs of advanced or specialized tests?
- Advanced or specialized tests are an additional out-of-pocket expense, with costs varying based on the type of test. Labs are ordered directly from testing companies (e.g., Mosaic Diagnostics for the Organic Acids Test) or through In-Common Laboratories. A full price list is available, and all costs will be disclosed before any test is ordered. Common tests such as the Organic Acid Test (OAT), basic stool/microbiome analysis, Methylation profile and FRAT typically range from $250 to $300 per test. Dr. Daoud does not send tests directly to patients but facilitates orders through trusted laboratories at the patient’s request.
Are most patients encouraged to undergo advanced or specialized testing?
- Dr. Daoud recommends stool testing for all patients with gastrointestinal concerns; however, not everyone requires advanced or specialized lab testing. Initial care typically focus on diet, targeted nutritional strategies, and optimizing digestive function. In mild cases, this may lead to significant improvement. For more complex presentations (e.g., moderate-to-severe autism, chronic pain syndromes, or autoimmune conditions), advanced testing is often encouraged to gain deeper insights and guide more precise treatment planning.
